We met while we were both doing our undergraduate degrees at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
We graduated together in 1993.
We moved to Chapel Hill, NC so Sue could get a graduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Although she didn’t like graduate school, we fell in love with NC and when she finished we stayed. After 10 years in the Triangle (Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh) we moved to the Triad (Winson-Salem, High Point, Greensboro).
Until spring 2006 we had two wonderful dogs, Fred (a bassett hound/black lab mix) and Sancho (a border collie/husky mix). They passed within a short time of each other, leaving our house and hearts very empty and quiet. Both were previous shelter dogs and led spoiled lives in our home. We support companion animal rescue whenever we get a chance. After letting 'the boys' enjoy their senior years in peace and quiet we may be fostering again.
In the fall of 2006 a cute cat joined our household. In his previous life as a foster cat he lived with 4 big dogs, which he'll have to remember again when another dog joins us. His name is Eze (pronounced like Pez, not easy). He keeps us entertained and our laps warm.
In January of 2008 a 'foster' cat named Eima joined Eze in the house. After some initial differences of opinion, they now get along great (most of the time). About March she unpacked for good and was no longer a foster.
In July 2008 a neighbor moved away leaving us a year old Maremma named Cotton. He has settled in nicely, although would like the cats to play with him more.
We have a lot of hobbies and interests. We love nature and lots of outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, bird watching, wildflower identification, and more. We love to travel, and have been fortunate to have traveled to New Zealand, France, Italy, Germany, England, Iceland, and Scotland... so far. We also play bridge as often as we get a chance both locally and at some area tournaments (we really just like to look young relative to the rest of the people in attendance...). Sue is a very active fiber artist. She knits, spins, weaves, and loves to learn anything that has to do with fiber of any kind. She attends a few fiber festivals every year.
